When Jaguar introduced the Mk2 in 1959, the Coventry-based marque set a new standard for the sporting saloon. Under the direction of Sir William Lyons, its successful predecessor was thoroughly refined, featuring larger windows, a wider rear track and an even more elegant appearance. The Mk2 combined luxury and comfort with performance that was virtually unrivalled at the time, becoming one of the most iconic British cars of the 1960s. The 3.8 was the absolute top-of-the-range model. Beneath the long bonnet of this 1966 example lies the legendary 3.8-litre XK six-cylinder engine, featuring twin overhead camshafts and twin SU carburettors, from the same engine family that also made the Jaguar E-Type famous. This is the matching numbers engine, paired with a manual gearbox with overdrive, ideal for relaxed motorway cruising. Disc brakes all round provide stopping power that put Jaguar ahead of its time. This Mk2 was restored in the past; the restoration was completed in 2000 and extensively documented in a photographic report. The car remains in good condition, and its service history is available. The Opalescent Blue paintwork gives this Mk2 a refined, graceful appearance and beautifully accentuates the rounded, muscular lines of its bodywork. The chrome grille, the leaping Jaguar mascot on the bonnet, the twin headlights with fog lamps and the substantial chrome bumpers complete the classic Jaguar look. Chrome wire wheels with centre-lock knock-off hubs, wing-mounted mirrors and chrome window surrounds add stylish finishing touches to the exterior. Inside, a quintessentially British interior awaits: dark blue seats, matching dark blue carpeting, and a richly finished dashboard and door cappings in polished burr walnut. The black steering wheel with Jaguar emblem and the central instrument panel with toggle switches and classic gauges perfectly capture the atmosphere of the 1960s. The combination of fresh Opalescent Blue, the deep dark blue interior and the warm walnut creates a harmonious and particularly elegant overall appearance, all in its original colour scheme.
